The only girl growing up in a sea of four brothers, Kari “Rosie” Cheek has been a tough cookie her entire life. A homeschooled, Methodist pastor’s daughter, she received her B.A. degree in English from the University of Kentucky in 2008, after which she ventured out into the world of building and rehabbing houses through AmeriCorps NCCC, serving people through non-profits throughout the southern region of the United States. Upon her return to Central Kentucky, she began working as a Health and Safety Manager for an industrial service company, where she spent over six years writing safety manuals and implementing new methods to help keep her coworkers safe.
After going through the process of purchasing her first home (a real fixer upper!), and being less than impressed with the home inspection she received, she was inspired to study up and pursue a career as a Home Inspector, having always been something of a building science geek. After obtaining her KY Home Inspector’s license (#103786) and establishing her own business – Rosie Home Inspections – in 2014, Kari now makes it her goal to go above and beyond for each of her clients, providing them with an extensive array of information about their prospective home, and making sure they understand each deficiency and its implication in a photo based format.
Recognizing the hazards associated with high radon levels early in 2016, Kari decided to do a little more studying and obtained her Radon Measurement Specialist license (#16SS035) from the National Radon Safety Board. She is now equipped with the knowledge and tools to measure indoor radon levels, so clients can identify potential lung cancer risks in their prospective home and negotiate the cost of a mitigation system with the home's seller if necessary.
You should also know that Kari is a gadget head through and through, and not only employs the use of basic inspection tools, but has also added a high end thermal imaging camera to her arsenal to be able to spot possible moisture and electrical issues that may not be viewable to the naked eye. Oh, and did I mention she did even more studying and obtained her Commercial Drone Pilot’s license through the FAA (#3922384), allowing her to perform roof inspections with the help of her handy dandy drone when the roof is too high or too steep to climb safely? Yeah, like I said, she loves her gadgets.
